Charles Walter Hourihan February 11, 1943 – July 27, 2012
Charles Walter Hourihan, 69 of Queen City, Missouri passed away on Friday, July 27, 2012 at the Davis County Hospital in Bloomfield, Iowa.
The son of Maurice Arthur and Marjorie Lucille (Harrison) Hourihan, Charles was born on February 11, 1943 in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. On June 13, 1964 in Salem, Iowa, he was united in marriage to Linda Benn and this union was blessed with 6 daughters, Teresa, Kathy, Karen, Melissa, Jenna and Jessi.
Charles is survived by his wife, Linda of Queen City, Missouri; 6 daughters, Teresa Hourihan of Burlington, Iowa, Kathy Kaveney and husband, Patrick of San Diego, California, Karen Myers and husband, Eric of Seattle, Washington, Melissa Bailey and husband, Walter of Chicago, Illinois, Jenna Wixon and husband, Daniel of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa and Jessi Hourihan of Warsaw, Illinois; 8 grandchildren, Gary Jazikoff, Tom Jazikoff, Jennifer Jazikoff, Grace Azinger, Dawson Myers, Morgan Bailey, Delania Wixom and Troy Wixom; 3 sisters: Elsie Ross and husband, Robert of Sun City, Arizona, Joyce McElwee of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa and Doris Septer and husband, George of Salem, Iowa; nieces and nephews and other family members.
His parents precede Charles in death.
Charles was a member of the Schuyler County Church of Faith of Lancaster, Missouri and was also a member of the Lapland Plowboys Tractor Club of Moulton and Centerville, Iowa.
Charles was a librarian at the Iowa State Penitentiary for 25 years from which he retired.
Charles was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who loved spending time with his family. He will be dearly missed.
_____ Memorial services will be held at the Schuyler County Church of Faith in Lancaster, Missouri on Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. with Sonny Smyser, pastor of the Schuyler County Church of Faith officiating. Special CD musical selections of “Me and God” by Josh Turner and “Blessed Assurance” by Randy Travis will be performed. Memorials have been established for the Schuyler County Cancer Relief Fund. Burial of the cremains will be in the Salem South Cemetery in Salem, Iowa following the memorial services. Online condolences by be expressed to the family by logging on to normanfh.com.
